Psychology staff review completed applications and will contact applicants who appear to be a good fit with our training program.  We will attempt to notify applicants of their status prior to December 15th. Primary selection criteria include:

  1. Meeting APA requirements for pre-doctoral psychology internship readiness.

  2. Candidate is from an APA accredited clinical or counseling psychology training program.

  3. Psychological testing coursework, direct testing experience, and/or interest in learning about psychological assessment.

  4. Interest in public mental health, particularly with adults who are severely and persistently mentally ill and/or children and adolescents who are seriously emotionally disturbed.

  5. Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Applicants who appear to be a good fit with our training program are invited to come to SMH to have a personal interview in January. During this time, SMH psychologists will provide final applicants with more information about our internship program.

On our interview day, applicants will have the opportunity to have individual interviews with SMH psychologists, current psychology interns and SMH staff to talk about individual interests and ask questions. Each applicant invited for an interview will have at least two individual interviews arranged during their visit. Those individuals who are included in the applicant pool but who cannot attend a personal interview will be contacted for a phone interview. While SMH does not require an in-person interview as part of the application process, it is strongly recommended so that applicants can gain a better understanding of our internship program, meet our staff, and tour our facilities.

Subsequent to the final interviews, the SMH psychology staff will meet to discuss the interviews and place applicants on the rank order list per APPIC policies and procedures. SMH pre-doctoral psychology internship program subscribes to all policies set forth by APPIC.
