First Call for Help      

 

First Call For Help is a component of Spokane Mental Health’s Crisis Response Services. Trained and professionally supervised volunteers and staff, provide telephone crisis intervention, information, assistance, referral, supportive listening and link callers to professional clinicians as needed. First Call For Help also serves as the first level of response for all calls occurring after the regular hours of operation for many community providers. Providing immediate assistance to people in emotional crisis, First Call for Help provides services in a confidential and caring manner.

First Call For Help provides:

  • Up-to-date community resource information

  • Supportive listening

  • 24-hour access to Crisis Response Services and other Spokane County Regional Support Network Mental Health providers

First Call For Help responds to a variety of calls concerning:

  • Relationship problems

  • Domestic violence

  • Loneliness

  • Substance abuse

  • Resources for elder relatives

  • Thoughts of suicide

  • Information on emergency shelter, food or transportation

  • Deaf and hard of hearing resources

  • Grief

  • Pregnancy

Volunteers are provided with 30 hours of training and an annual refresher.  Please contact First Call For Help at (509) 838-4651 if you are interested in becoming a volunteer.
