About Spokane

Financial Systems and Operations

Spokane Mental Health is a 501 (c)(3) tax exempt not for profit organization. The majority of its programs are funded by federal, state, and county agencies. SMH has a progressive, knowledgeable, and active Board of Directors which has adopted financially pertinent committees including those with Budget and Operations, Compliance and Audit responsibilities. SMH has had clean audit opinions since its inception over 30 years ago, including those activities that are under OMB Circular A-133.

SMH maintains stable financial health in an increasingly complex mental health funding and regulatory environment. SMH has maintained positive contract relationships and service partnerships with key fundors and contractors. Three agencies represent the majority of SMH annual revenues and include Spokane County Regional Service Network, Aging and Long Term Care of Eastern Washington, and Spokane Public Schools.

As a healthcare social service organization, approximately 80% of expenses are compensation and employee benefit related. Consumers are served and supported at fifteen SMH facilities throughout the city and county. All facilities in which consumers are seen are ADA compliant.
