Psychiatric Services

SMH Psychiatric Services include diagnostic evaluations, medication management, consultations, and psychotherapy for children, adults, and elders. Psychiatrists (MDs and DOs), Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners (ARNPs), Resident Physicians in the University of Washington Psychiatry Training Program, Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), and other mental health professionals are all members of the SMH Psychiatric Services staff.

In addition to routine care for people with a mental illness, a SMH doctor is on-call around-the-clock for urgent and emergent needs, including sharing coverage for Sacred Heart Medical Center’s Emergency Department. Psychiatric Services staff members also provide nursing assessments, Crisis Stabilization Services for developmentally-disabled consumers, Expanded Community Services for those being discharged from longer term psychiatric hospitalization, counseling, and nutrition, wellness, and overall health education. SMH Psychiatric Services staff members also provide Nurse Consultant Services in residential, skilled nursing, and congregate care facilities.

Our Psychiatric Services staff members strive to provide evidence-based approaches to properly diagnose and treat mental illness with the goal of achieving mental health.
